From September 2025 to October 2028, the Engawa space of CAM – Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian will become the headquarters of Institution(ing)s. The project brings together institutions of varying sizes, capabilities, and scopes to experiment and develop new practices. In addition to offering shelter and facilities for network members, Institution(ing)s headquarters will also be (re)used by members and parts of the artistic ecosystem as a laboratory where ideas, knowledge, and practices are born.

Due to its laboratory-like nature, the scenography for the Engawa space at CAM – Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian was entirely designed and built by students from the Departamento de Arquitectura da Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (DA/UAL), Centro de Estudos de Arquitectura, Cidade e Território (CEACT/UAL), under the supervision of professors João Quintela and Marta Sequeira. Conceived as an architectural system without obsolescence, it proposes a flexible, sustainable, and circular museography. Materials discarded by the construction industry, kindly provided by the dst group, and materials from previous CAM exhibitions are rescued and transformed into an adaptable structure capable of reconfiguring itself over time. More than just an exhibition support, the project for Institution(ing)s' space is a spatial manifesto on the future of architecture and curatorial practices.
